Privacy Policy

What we collect, who sees it, including venues and the AI systems that help run the concierge, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.

Effective September 20, 2026.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to plan and book for you: your mobile number and name, your preferences, what you tell us about the people you are seeing, and your conversations with your concierge.
  • People on our team and AI systems both read your requests to draft plans. Our AI providers are contractually barred from using your information to train their models.
  • Venues and vendors get only what a booking or delivery needs: a name, a party size, a time, dietary notes, a delivery address.
  • We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for targeted advertising. There are no advertising trackers in the app.
  • You can see, correct and delete what we hold from the app, and a person you have told us about can ask us to delete what we hold about them.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

This Privacy Policy describes how DateWell, Inc. (“DateWell”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the DateWell mobile application, the website at datewell.io, our concierge services, and the messages we exchange with you (together, the “Service”). It also describes the choices and rights you have.

This policy does not cover the practices of restaurants, hotels, florists, event organizers, payment processors or other third parties, each of which handles your information under its own policy.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us.

  • Account information: your mobile number, first and last name, and, if you provide it, an email address. We use your mobile number to sign you in by one-time code.
  • Membership and billing information: your membership tier and status, billing history, invoices and receipts. Card details are collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe; we keep only the card brand, last four digits and expiry date.
  • Your preferences: your home city and neighborhoods, default budget, dietary requirements, tone preferences, and answers to region-specific questions such as how far you will travel for dinner.
  • Information about people you are seeing: names or nicknames, relationship stage, birthday and anniversary, other important dates, delivery addresses, food and drink preferences, dietary needs and allergies, favorite flowers and restaurants, interests, likes, dislikes, photos you choose to add, and notes in your own words. See Section 6.
  • Your conversations with the concierge: everything you type or choose in the chat, the plans we propose, what you approve or decline, and your feedback after a date.
  • Records of your agreements: the version of the Concierge Authorization Agreement and Terms you accepted and when.
  • Support and other communications: emails, messages and any other correspondence with us.

2a. Information we collect automatically

When you use the app or website we, and the service providers that operate it for us, automatically collect:

  • Device and app information: device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, and a push-notification token if you enable notifications.
  • Usage information: the screens you view, the features you use, the actions you take, and when.
  • Diagnostic information: crash reports, performance data and error logs.
  • Network information: your IP address, which gives us an approximate location (city-level). The app does not collect precise GPS location, and does not access your contacts, calendar or photo library unless you choose to add a photo.

2b. Information from other sources

We receive limited information from others:

  • From Stripe: whether a payment succeeded or failed, card brand and last four digits, and dispute notices.
  • From venues and vendors: confirmation numbers, booking status, deposit and cancellation terms, and any penalty a venue charges in connection with a booking we made for you.
  • From Apple: if you install through TestFlight or the App Store, limited information Apple provides to developers about installs, crashes and, where applicable, purchases.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide the Service: sign you in, run the concierge, propose and book dates, reservations, deliveries, occasions and trips, and confirm them to you.
  • Personalize plans: remember what you and the people you are seeing like and avoid, so each plan is more suited to you.
  • Bill and collect: charge membership fees, invoice third-party purchases at cost, process venue penalties under the Concierge Authorization Agreement, and keep financial records.
  • Communicate with you: verification codes, plans awaiting approval, confirmations, reminders about important dates, invoices, service announcements, and, if you have not opted out, marketing.
  • Keep the Service safe: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, chargeback misuse and security incidents, and enforce our Terms.
  • Improve the Service: understand how it is used, fix problems, and develop new features. Where practical we do this with aggregated or de-identified data.
  • Comply with law: meet tax, accounting, legal and regulatory obligations, and respond to lawful requests.

4. Human concierges and AI systems

Your concierge is both people and software. Members of the DateWell team read your requests, review plans, make bookings and answer you. Software systems, including large language models provided by third parties (currently Anthropic’s Claude, accessed through its API), also read your messages and profile, along with the profile of the person you are planning for and our venue catalogue, to draft suggestions and plans and to keep a running memory of preferences. A memory service may store short summaries of those preferences so the concierge can recall them later.

These providers process your information only to provide their service to us, under contracts that restrict their use of it, and they are not permitted to use your information to train or improve their models. No booking, purchase or charge is made by an automated system alone: each is either made by a person or approved by you in the app.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only as described here. We do not sell it, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The app contains no third-party advertising or advertising-tracking software.

  • Venues and vendors. To make a booking or delivery we share what it needs and no more: typically the reservation name, party size, date and time, a contact number, dietary needs or allergies, the occasion, seating requests, and, for deliveries, the recipient’s name and address. We do not share your conversations or profile.
  • Service providers that operate the Service for us, under contract: Google (Firebase and Google Cloud, for hosting, database, authentication and SMS verification), Stripe (payments, invoices and card storage), Anthropic (AI drafting, as described in Section 4), a memory service for concierge preferences, and providers of email, crash reporting and analytics. Each may use your information only to provide its service to us.
  • Professional advisers such as lawyers, accountants and insurers, under confidentiality.
  • Legal, safety and enforcement. We may disclose information if we believe it is required by law, subpoena or court order; to protect the rights, property or safety of DateWell, our members, our concierges, venues or the public; to investigate fraud or abuse; or to enforce our Terms.
  • Business transfers. If DateWell is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
  • With your direction or consent, for example when you ask us to send a gift with a note in your name.
  • Aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

6. Information about people you tell us about

DateWell only works if you tell us about the people you are seeing, and much of what we hold is therefore information about someone who is not our member. We treat it with the same care as yours. We use it only to plan and book on your behalf; we share with a venue or vendor only what a particular booking or delivery needs, such as a dietary note or a delivery address; and we never use it to contact that person, to market to them, or for any purpose of our own.

By giving us information about another person you confirm that you have a proper basis to share it for this purpose. If someone believes we hold information about them, they may write to hello@datewell.io to ask what we hold and to have it deleted. We may take reasonable steps to confirm who they are, and we will honor the request without needing your consent.

7. How long we keep information

We keep personal information while your account is open and for as long as needed for the purposes above. When you close your account, we delete or de-identify your profile, the profiles of the people you told us about, and your conversations within 90 days, except that we keep invoices, receipts, payment records and agreement acceptance records for up to seven years for tax, accounting and dispute purposes; information needed to resolve an open dispute, penalty or chargeback until it is resolved; and information we are required to keep by law. Copies may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days after deletion.

8. Security

We protect personal information with technical and organizational measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that limit who at DateWell can see member data, logging, and the use of Stripe for card data so that full card numbers never reach our systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information you transmit to us. Keep your device secure and tell us at once if you believe your account has been compromised.

9. Your choices

You are in control of your information:

  • View and correct: your profile, preferences and the people you have told us about can be viewed and edited in the app.
  • Delete: close your account from Account in the app, or email hello@datewell.io, and we will delete your information as described in Section 7. You can also remove an individual person from your account at any time.
  • Export: email hello@datewell.io to receive a copy of the information we hold about you in a portable format.
  • Notifications: manage push notifications in the app and in your device settings. Reply STOP to opt out of marketing SMS; you will still receive verification codes and service messages while your account is open.
  • Marketing email: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
  • Concierge authorization: withdraw your booking authorization from Account at any time.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and share; to access it and receive a copy; to correct inaccurate information; to delete it; to limit our use of sensitive personal information; to opt out of sales, sharing for targeted advertising, and certain profiling; and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We honor these rights for all members, wherever they live.

California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, the categories of personal information we have collected in the preceding twelve months are: identifiers (name, mobile number, email, device and account identifiers, IP address); customer records (billing information); commercial information (membership, purchases and invoices); internet or network activity (usage and diagnostic information); approximate geolocation derived from IP address; audio or visual information (photos you choose to add); inferences (preferences drawn from your conversations); and sensitive personal information (account log-in credentials, the contents of your messages with the concierge, and health-related information such as allergies and dietary needs). We collect them from the sources in Section 2, use them for the purposes in Section 3, and disclose them to the categories of recipients in Section 5 for business purposes only. We use sensitive personal information only to provide the Service you request and for the other purposes permitted by law; we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of anyone under 16.

How to exercise your rights. Email hello@datewell.io or use Account in the app. We will verify your request by confirming control of the mobile number on your account, and may ask for more information where needed. You may authorize an agent to act for you; we will ask for proof of that authorization. We respond within 45 days, extendable once by a further 45 days with notice. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our response; residents of states that provide an appeal right will receive a decision within the time the law requires. We treat browser signals such as the Global Privacy Control as a request to opt out of sale or sharing where that applies. California residents may also request, once a year, a notice of any personal information disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing; we do not make such disclosures.

11. Children

The Service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and no one under 13 may use the Service in any circumstance. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact hello@datewell.io and we will delete it.

12. Where information is stored

DateWell operates in the United States, and personal information is stored and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live. By using the Service you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If a change is material we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The current version, with its effective date, is always available at datewell.io/privacy.html and in the app.

14. Contact us
